Pets First Aid

This site is all about first aid for pets; what you must do in a situation where your pet gets injured and how to act.

The best thing you can do as a pet owner is not to panic, stay calm and use common sense.

Here are a few main points to think about in an emergency:

NEVER give your pet anything to eat or drink unless specifically instructed to do so by a vet or professional.

Try not to be the hero, act calmly and think about the situation before you act. A life-threatening emergency will need fast action, but don’t let that interfere with your judgement.

An injured pet could lash out and bite you as they are scared of the situation. The normal behaviour of your dog could change in these stressful situations.

The suggestions on this site are about what to do before you take your pet to the vet, please read on to get clued up.

You should always keep the telephone number of your vet close to your phone, if you have a mobile phone keep it stored in there. You must make sure you call the vet before you take the pet to the practice - they can offer you valuable advice over the phone.

You should keep a small first aid kit with you in your home and when travelling with your pet. Inside, you should have bandages, cotton wool, a water bottle, tweezers, swabs, scissors and clean pieces of sheeting.
